PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy starts with living a healthy life. I believe creating a healthy and balance lifestyle is paramount for mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. When I feel down and frustrated with the situations I am in, I tell myself that someone else in this world has it much worse and my problems are not as big as I make them out to be. This is somewhat of a mental check that helps me to put my issues into perspective. Perspective, determination, and strength are a few words that I feel are incredibly important for every aspect of life. Perspective can change the ideas and feelings toward subjects, topics, or even certain foods and exercises. Determination is a quality that I believe can be taught and learned. Being determined means having made a firm decision or vision and working towards goals that have been personally set out. For example, health and fitness related goals that I want to achieve are hard to achieve but I have the determination and the steps in place to make me successful in accomplishing my goals. Having strength is key to be able to mentally pick myself up when I am feeling down and to push towards my goals.

Throughout the years in sport, recreation, and post-secondary education I have really noticed that not everyone learns the same. No two people are the same. From this, I believe individualism is extremely important when teaching and helping people. This may put more effort on the teacher but in the long run I believe the learner benefits immensely. "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." Matthew 4:19.

My philosophy includes believing people and children are inherently good. When given basic boundaries and rules that are respectfully enforced I believe this creates a natural environment for everyone involved. It is important to have set rules clients or students to follow. These rules or guidelines should be created from both teacher and students or clients. People are highly curious and learning beings. A lot of what people do is related to how they have learned a subject and what their opinions are based on. Having an Inclusive environment is very important to me. I believe in teaching with patience and being open to ideas and opinions is essential. This creates a positive, open, and friendly environment where people feel like they will not be judged for what they have to say and feel open to sharing their opinions.
